Accessibility statements

The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 came into force on 23 September 2018.

This legislation requires all websites and apps to provide an accessibility statement.

The statement must:

  • be regularly reviewed.
  • be in an accessible format and published on the website of the public sector body

For an application the statement must:

  • be in an accessible format
  • be available on the website of the public sector body
  • be alongside other information available when downloading the mobile application

Accessibility statements must include:

  • an explanation of those parts that aren’t accessible and the reasons why
  • if appropriate, a description of any accessible alternatives provided
  • contact details for people to notify us of any accessibility issues
  • details of the enforcement procedure in the event of an unsatisfactory response to a notification or request

New Turas accessibility statements

All new Turas websites or applications must have an accessibility statement before they are made public.

Plan Ahead

To include an accessibility statement with your product we are required to carry out an accessibility audit. It is essential to book an accessibility audit ahead of expected go-live dates. These take time to complete and there may be changes to be implemented before the site can go live.

Please let us know in advance that you require an accessibility audit and statement for your new product.

New features or functionality

When adding new features or functionality to a product with an existing accessibility statement the test team should run accessibility checks to ensure compliance. We aim to carry out an annual review of accessibility statements.

Any new issues that have occurred since the last time the statement was written would need development and test time to fix. It is important that accessibility checks become part of the design and development process as this will save further costs when your product is audited.
